Грамматическая конструкция с глаголом wish как средство выражения сожаления в современном английском языке

Abstract

The article deals with the semantics of regret expressed by the grammatical construction of a complex sentence, in which the principal clause contains the verb wish and the subordinate clause performs the function of an object. The following factors influencing the resulting semantics of the construction are studied: the ability of the speaker to control the action of the dependent proposition, the role of context in the process of creation of said semantics. Fifteen sentence patterns of the studied construction are described in the article and considerations on the position of the construction under study in the field of linguistic means of expressing regret are made.
