Abstract


The analysis of the three lexemes denominating the mouse and other rodents in Indo-European languages shows that the oldest lexeme denominating the mouse retained in the Baltic, Celtic, Pamir languages and dialects in the Slavic languages. Two other lexemes originally designated a commensal house mouse, but later they were also used to refer to certain species of rodents that live in the wild.
